A sweet Victorian story about Lilly and Bess. After a an unexpected kiss between Lilly and Bess, Bess moves from England to Canada with her family. Lilly is betrothed to Nathaniel, Bess's brother and once settled in Canada, he sends for her. Lilly is faced with a tiresome journey to be with whom she believes to be the love of her life. But once in Canada a new relationship is soon established between Bess and Lilly.
This is a love affair between two women who were meant to be together.

A sweet story. the first thing you notice is the quality of the language used. it is atmospheric and mood setting, as If the word choice helps to conjure up the images of the period.But the story is novel and interesting too. Lilly is setting off for a new life in a new country but she is also taking suppressed aspects of her past with her, and there is a conflict that comes about on this journey as she comes to realize that everything she thought she wanted in her new life was more of a front to hide the life she knew she always wanted. its a very standout theme and I thought the writer addressed it very well.
in the end that new life and the promises of what she thought she wanted are put to the test and there are some moments of drama, upheaval, violence and sweet romantic times along with some really sexy bits with clothes flying off and the usual stuff you get from this writer who wants you to get excited about reading her stories.

Some editing problems and I don't care for the1800's
A wonderful story, very clean writing, and I am very impressed with the research of this era. I saw one reviewer gave this story a bad review because they don't care for the1800's. Not sure what they thought "Victorian" meant, but hey, I guess some folks just don't really pay attention. This author has really impressed me, and I will be reading all of her work. She paints a lovely canvas with her words, and I'd be able to read her grocery list!
Normally I don't like this genre but this captivated me from the beginning. I can hardly imagine how hard it must be for a lesbian woman to live in that time but after this story I can empathize. The story is very well written. Enough drama and tension. And the end was heartening despite the rise.
